What is a Russian manicure?

A Russian manicure is a dry e-file manicure performed without soaking. It involves especially detailed work around the cuticle area and sidewalls, often using an e-file for precise prep and controlled cleanup.

Because the natural nail is prepared so thoroughly, polish or gel can be placed very close to the cuticle line, which creates a cleaner contour and helps the manicure keep a neat appearance for longer.

The focus of Russian manicure is an exceptionally refined cuticle zone and carefully cleaned side pockets, resulting in a very crisp outline and that signature under-the-cuticle finish clients love.

With a Russian manicure, the cuticle area is worked more precisely and in greater detail, allowing polish to be applied very close to the cuticle for a cleaner look that lasts significantly longer than a regular manicure.

Need to know

Frequently Asked Questions

A Russian manicure uses a dry technique and detailed e-file cuticle work to create a cleaner contour around the nail. That precision allows polish to sit closer to the cuticle and usually keeps the manicure looking fresher for longer.

Many clients enjoy a polished look for up to 4 to 5 weeks. For nail health and maintenance, a refresh every 2 to 3 weeks is often the most practical schedule.

Yes, Russian manicure can be safe when it is performed by a trained nail technician using proper technique, sterilized tools, and a careful approach that respects the condition of your nails and cuticles.

A properly performed Russian manicure should not feel painful. You may feel slight sensitivity if your cuticles are already irritated, damaged, or very overgrown, but the service should be gentle and controlled.

It can be, but it is important to tell your nail technician in advance if your cuticles are sensitive. The service should be adjusted with a gentler technique, and if the skin is actively irritated or injured it may be better to modify the service or wait until it heals.

Gel polish is usually the better choice if your nails are naturally strong and you mainly want color and a clean long-lasting finish. Hard gel is often better if your nails are thin, flexible, break easily, or you want extra strength and structure to help maintain shape and length.

A gel manicure mainly adds color and shine to the natural nail, while a hard gel manicure adds more structure, strength, and support. Hard gel is usually better for clients who need reinforcement or want help maintaining shape and length.

Timing depends on the service you choose. Maintenance appointments can take around 50 to 75 minutes, while gel, hard gel, refill, or extension services may take 105 to 170 minutes.

Nail extensions are a full new set created to add length and shape from the beginning. A nail extension refill is a maintenance appointment for existing extensions, where the grown-out area is rebalanced and the structure is refreshed instead of creating a brand-new set.

A no polish manicure is best if you want a clean natural look without shine and mainly want cuticle care and neat nail shaping. A Japanese manicure is usually better if you want a polished natural glow and a more conditioned look without gel or traditional polish.

Nail extensions are a good option if you want noticeably more length, want to change your nail shape, or have broken or uneven nails and want a more uniform result. If you are happy with your natural length and mostly want a clean polished look, a gel or hard gel manicure is often enough.

Yes. Metal instruments go through disinfection, cleaning, drying, sealed packaging, and autoclave sterilization. This is one of the core hygiene standards highlighted on the page.

Yes, Russian manicure can work well for thin nails when the right service is chosen. In many cases, thin nails benefit more from added structure such as hard gel rather than simple gel polish alone.

No, removal is listed as an extra service. Gel removal is priced separately at $20, and acrylic or dip powder removal is priced separately at $40.
