Russian Manicure
No Polish
Precision e-file cuticle work, clean nail shape, natural finish. No color, no coating — just your nails at their most groomed.
What is a no-polish Russian manicure?
Russian Manicure No Polish is exactly what it sounds like — the full precision of Russian manicure technique, with nothing applied to the nail at the end. No color, no base coat, no topcoat. Just clean, shaped, perfectly groomed nails with a natural finish.
The entire value of this service is in the preparation. Using a high-speed electric file with precision bits, the cuticle, pterygium, and all dead skin around the nail are removed completely and cleanly — dry, with no water. The nails are then shaped to your preference and the nail plate is smoothed and lightly buffed to a soft natural sheen. What you leave with is nails that look intentionally cared for, without looking like they're wearing anything at all.
"Perfectly groomed nails don't need a coat of anything. They need to be prepared correctly."
This is a service for clients who want their nails in excellent condition — clean edges, a defined nail line, smooth surface — without committing to any color or coating. It is also one of the most nail-friendly services we offer, since nothing is applied to the nail plate that would need to be removed later.
What happens during the appointment
The appointment is focused entirely on preparation and condition. Every step has a purpose — nothing is decorative.
Who books Russian Manicure No Polish
There are many reasons to come in for a manicure without any color. These are the most common.
Coming off gel? Start here.
If you currently have gel on your nails and want to transition to natural nail care — or to Japanese Manicure — a Russian manicure without polish is the right first step. It is not always possible to do a Japanese Manicure immediately after gel removal, and we do not recommend trying to rush that process.
Removing gel completely — especially hard gel or Gel-X — weakens and sensitizes the nail plate. Applying anything to a freshly de-gelled nail, including the Japanese Manicure paste, risks a poor result and unnecessary discomfort. The nail needs time to recover first.
If we recommend a no-polish session before your next treatment, it is because we know the result will be better for it. Rushing the process leads to a disappointing outcome — and we'd rather give you nails that are genuinely in good condition than a result that looks fine on the day but compromises your nail health.
FAQ
Yes — noticeably. The cuticle work alone makes a significant difference. When the nail line is clean and the dead skin around the nail is fully removed, even bare nails look deliberately groomed. The light buffing adds a soft natural sheen that makes the nail surface look smooth and healthy. Clients who haven't had Russian manicure before are often surprised by how polished their nails look without anything on them.
Yes. A no-polish session does not commit you to anything going forward. You can come back for gel, regular polish, or Japanese Manicure at any subsequent appointment. The no-polish session simply gives the nail plate time without any coating — which is often the most useful thing you can do for your nail health before starting a new routine.
No — when done correctly, it is not painful. The e-file operates at the appropriate speed for each stage and the technique is deliberate and precise. First-time clients, or those coming off gel with sensitized nails, may feel some awareness during the cuticle work, but discomfort should not be part of a well-executed Russian manicure. If anything feels uncomfortable, let us know and we adjust immediately.
Every two to four weeks, depending on how quickly your nails grow and how important the cuticle area is to you. The cuticle and pterygium regrow continuously — regular appointments keep the nail line clean and the nail plate in good condition. If you're using this service as a recovery period between gel appointments, one or two sessions over 4–6 weeks is usually sufficient before moving on to your next treatment.
Pterygium is the thin transparent tissue that grows from the cuticle area onto the nail plate itself. It is distinct from the cuticle and adheres directly to the nail surface. Even without polish, leaving it in place makes the nail look uneven and less clean — and it contributes to the nail plate appearing shorter than it actually is. Removing it with an e-file reveals the full nail plate and is what creates the characteristically clean, elongated nail line that Russian manicure is known for.
The cuticle work is what makes this a Russian manicure — without it, it's a standard file and shape. We offer that too, but if you're booking a Russian manicure, the e-file cuticle stage is part of the service. If you have specific concerns about the cuticle work — for example, very sensitive skin or nails in a particular condition — mention it when booking and we'll discuss the best approach for your situation.
